Doubletime: The 10 Fastest Rappers In The World

The fastest rappers of all time

There are rappers, and there are fast rappers. As with everything, tastes often diverge when it comes to music, and it’s difficult to find objective measurement criteria. When it comes to rap music, however, there is one factor that can actually be “measured”, and that is the speed at which the words can be spoken by the artist. Some musicians have turned this into a real competition and are vying for the spot of the fastest rapper of all time.

We present the ten hottest contenders for the title of “fastest rapper of all time” here.

Who is the fastest rapper in the world?

Top 10 list in 2022

01. NoClue

Artist: NoClue

Song Title: New West

Released: 2005

Ricky Raphel Brown, known by the stage name NoClue, is an American rapper from Seattle. In 2005, he set an official world record. He sang 723 syllables in 51.27 seconds (14.1 syllables per second) in his song “New West”. As a result, he was named the “Fastest Rap MC” by Guinness World Records.

At the age of four, he began to reprise rap songs. At the age of 9, he started writing his own lyrics. NoClue was quite heavily influenced by West Coast hip hop. He has established himself as a multi-layered lyricist with upbeat beats that are expressed in each of his songs.

02. Kollegah

Artist: Kollegah

Song Title: Mondfinsternis

Released: 2011

Kollegah has been a fixture in the German rap scene for years. Known for his “bossy” demeanor and his fast rap interludes, he is the most popular German rapper in our Doubletime Rap Top 10.

Kollegah saw the light of day on August 3, 1984 under the civil name Felix Blume in Friedberg, Hesse. As the son of a Canadian father and a German mother, he grew up bilingual and often worked as a translator in his youth. He successfully graduated from high school and began studying law at the University of Mainz, which he never finished.

After being active in internet battlerap leagues for a long time and releasing a few underground tapes, his first chart-topping album, “Alphagene”, was released in 2007. Since then, the “Boss” has delivered six more albums, the last four of which have all topped the German album charts.

If you evaluate his rap speed, Kollegah brings it up to 9 words per second. Particularly impressive examples of Kollegah’s double-time skills can be found in the tracks “Billionaire’s Club”, “Gs sterben jung”, “Veni, Vidi, Vici”, “Mondfinsternis” and “AKs im Wandschrank.”

03. Busta Rhymes

Artist: Chris Brown

Song Title: Look at Me Now ft. Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes

Released: 2011

Trevor Tahiem Smith, also better known by his rapper alias “Busta Rhymes”, is without question one of the fastest rappers in the world. In addition to his rap music, Busta Rhymes is also a successful singer, songwriter, producer and actor, and is often noticed for his outlandish taste in design and fashion.

He was born on May 20, 1972 in the New York borough of East Flatbush, Brooklyn. His parents are both of Jamaican origin and so the young Trevor had contact with music in his daily life from a very early age. His youth was marked by frequent moves and, even before he finished high school, young Trevor already lived in New York, USA and Liverpool, England before finally earning his high school diploma in New York.

His music career really took off in 1996 when his first solo album, “The Coming“, became a direct sales success. In total, Busta Rhymes released seven studio albums from 1996 to 2009.

If you look at the speed of his voice singing, Busta Rhymes manages up to 143 words per minute. He shows his skills especially impressively in the song “Break Ya Neck”, as well as in his feature part on Chris Brown’s single “Look At Me Now”.

04. Eminem

Artist: Eminem

Song Title: Rap God

Released: 2013

Eminem has become known as an extreme doubletimer at the latest since he declared himself the best rapper in the world with his song “Rap God“. But even earlier songs already showed his enormous talent for language.

The “Rap God”, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Matters III, was born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph in the US state of Missouri. His mother almost died during labor, which lasted 72 hours, and so Eminem remained an only child. He spent much of his youth in a neighborhood of Detroit inhabited mainly by African Americans, where he and his mother often had problems because of the color of their skin. It was here that Eminem first came into contact with rap music, a circumstance that would have a lasting impact on his life. The film “8 Mile” tells of his fate and the beginnings of his rap career.

In 1996 he released his first studio album “Infinite“, which, according to his own information, probably sold only 70 copies. All subsequent albums consistently ranked first in the US Hip-Hop Billboard Top 100 charts. Probably his most famous double-time song is the song “Rap God”, released on the 2013 album “The Marshall Matters LP 2“, in which he renders a staggering 1560 words in six minutes and thirty seconds. That’s about four words per second. “Rap God” also got an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the song with the longest lyrics.

05. Tech N9ne

Artist: Tech N9ne

Straight Out The Cage (Feat. Serj Tankian)

Released: 2013

Anyone who has ever listened to an album by Tech N9ne knows that he should not be missing from any Doubletime best list. Tech N9ne has brought the so-called “Chopper Style” to perfection, which allows him to rap incredibly fast, but does not always make it easy for even native speakers to understand his content.

Tech N9ne was born on November 9, 1971 under the real name Aaron Dontez Yates, in Kansas City, Missouri. He began practicing voice singing at a very early age and is said to have rapped the letters of his name as a child to better remember how to spell it. His mother was very ill, a circumstance that led him to search for God at an early age and is still present in his rap lyrics today.

After initially being in the underground rap scene, Tech N9ne has released a whopping 33 albums since 1999. If you look at his rap speed, he brings it to an incredible 912 words in just one minute on his fastest song, “Takin Online Orders. So it’s hardly surprising that his stage name is based on a machine gun.

06. Twista

Artist: Twista

Song Title: Yo Body F/Do Or Die & Johnny P

Released: 2009

Another incredibly fast rapper and representative of the chopper style is the US artist Twista, also known as Tung Twista, which translates as “tongue twister”.

Twista was born on November 27, 1973 in the US city of Chicago, where he also grew up and first came into contact with hip-hop. He is said to have started rapping at the tender age of 12, but his first album was not released until 1992. His breakthrough came in 1996, when he released the song “Po Pimp” together with Chicago producer The Legendary Traxster and rapper Do or Die, which became a hit.

In total, Twista has released ten albums, collaborating with the likes of Kanye West, Ludacris, T-Pain, Jamie Foxx and R. Kelly. Living up to his stage name, Twista has released a variety of dizzyingly fast songs. But the fastest of them all is undeniably “From Da Tip Of My Tongue”, in which he raps the 116-word first verse in just 16 seconds.

07. Yelawolf

Artist: Tech N9ne

Song Title: Worldwide (Feat. Busta Rhymes, Yelawolf, Twisted Insane)

Released: 2011

The US artist Yelawolf combines two musical worlds with his songs: Hip Hop and Dixie sound, and that at a remarkable speech tempo.

Yelawolf, real name Michael Wayne Atha, was born on December 30, 1979 in Gadsen, Alabama, the son of a Cherokee descendant and a white mother. The latter was only a tender 16 years old herself at the time of his birth and moved with her son very often during his childhood. He then attended an elementary school in Nashville, which was located near a social housing project. According to Yelawolf, this was the first time rap made sense to him. He released his first album of his own, “Creek Water,” in 2005.

Since 2011, he has been signed to Eminem’s label Shady Records, and with “Radioactive” he released his first major label album in 2011. Just like his label boss Eminem, Yelawolf is also a master of double-time rapping, as he impressively demonstrates for example in the song “Worldwide Choppers”, on which other double-time greats such as Busta Rhymes, Tech N9ne and Twista also demonstrate their skills.

Yelawolf has mastered the chopper style and can easily deliver six syllables per second, which makes him one of the fastest rappers of all time.

08. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Artist: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Song Title: Foe Tha Love of Money

Released: 1994

Unlike any of the other artists featured here, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are not an individual, but rather a collective of musicians consisting of rappers Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone. They are all undoubtedly among the fastest rappers in the world and co-founders of the Midwest Chopper style.

The group was formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1991 and initially called themselves the “Baind Aid Boys”. Under their now familiar name and with the members listed above, they first released in 1994 with the EP “Creepin on ah Come Up“. The album stormed to #12 on the US album charts and became a hit. The two singles, “Foe Tha Love of $” and “Thuggish Ruggish Bone“, both went platinum.

To this day, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony continue to pursue their signature style of fast-paced rap and soul music, often dealing with profound subject matter, such as intra-family violence or spirituality. A great example of how fast the guys can rap is the song “Flow Motion”, in which rapper Krayzie Bone raps a full 239 words in just 26 seconds.

09. Twisted Insane

Artist: Twisted Insane

Song Title: Underground Psycho featuring C Mob

Released: 2013

Twisted Insane is for many of his fans the undisputed number one of all time in terms of double-time rap. In 1992, he actually made it into the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest rapper in the world.

Twisted Insane was born on September 22, 1982 in San Diego, California, under the simple name Michael Johnson. He grew up in San Diego and wrote his first rhymes at the age of 12. After his first live show, as he describes himself, he was so overwhelmed by the feeling that from then on he was “addicted to concerts”. He traveled around the U.S. performing at various venues, earning the money by selling CDs and running a tapas stand.

Then in 2006, his first solo album, “Shoot For The Face“, was released. At the time of its release, Johnson had no permanent residence. Since then, he has released eight more solo albums, but his biggest success remains his feature on the song “Worldwide Choppers,” in which he raps a full 105 words in just 13 seconds alongside other Doubletime stars.

10. Rebel XD

Artist: Rebel XD

Rebel XD is another candidate who has already made it into the Guinness Book of Records with his voice singing.

Quite little is known about the artist himself, probably also because he has not released any albums or any music at all. According to his own information, Rebel XD was born in Chicago, Illinois and has been rapping since 1987. He set the world record for the fastest rap of all time a total of 3 times, the last of which was in 2007 when he rapped 852 syllables in just 42 seconds. However, he himself sees his strength not only in his rap speed, but especially in his lyrics, which can still convey deeper themes despite the speed in which they are performed.

We have now gotten to know a few of the fastest rappers in the world in more detail. Who exactly is the fastest of them all is hard to say, especially considering the different languages our artists speak. But the fact is that we take our hats off to all the artists and are excited to see which rappers will appear in the Doubletime sky in the future.
